Generic Mountain Picture
Monarch Crest Trail runs along the mountain ridges from Monarch Pass. The picture is too nice not to post, but it tells no story beyond what a beautiful day it was.
Prairie Smoke
These Prairie Smoke (Geum triflorum) flowers and seed heads make for a colorful spring in parts of the northern United States and Canada.
Spiked Sentinels
Yucca flowers guard the entrance to an unnamed canyon near Ticaboo, Utah. A wet month brought out the greens in the desert, but did not sustain the spring of water we sought at the head of the canyon.
Mountain Ranch
These are some of the out buildings on the historic Beckwith Ranch near Westcliffe Colorado. The ranch is quite picturesque with the wide fields backed by the mountains contrasting the white buildings.
The Storm
After the first warning drops the clouds poured several times over the next two hours. The broken strands of one of the storms stream from Little Scraggy Peak as I start the final descent to the Colorado Trail.
Sign of Things to Come
As I set out on a ride, rain begins to fall on my bike. Soon rain turns to hail, lightning and thunder, and everything is covered in mud.
Frosty Contrast
The white of the hoarfrost on these trees provides a strong contrast to the deep blue of the sky.
North Fork
The North Fork trail cuts through the mountains near Conifer. For one month in early summer the mountains are green and rainy; the same picture taken in July would be a study in browns.
Bleached and Scalloped
The sandstone wall of Iceberg canyon is sheared where pieces have broken off, and streaked where the sparse water of the desert runs down it.
