Dramatic display
This pair of red wing blackbirds was very vocal as I canoed around a bog, and I soon found out they had a nest near by.
the middle is nowhere
The corner between the states of Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas is marked by a survey marker and a couple of cattle gates, if you can find the right farm road.
moki dugway
Moki Dugway is the most spectacular rout to the top of Cedar Mesa in Utah. Paved road on either side, but the switchbacks are all gravel.
La Sal
The back roads east of Moab UT lead through the La Sal mountains. Alpine gives way to aspens, and the lower stretches are shared by cattle and old uranium mines.
Mountain Ranch
These are some of the out buildings on the historic Beckwith Ranch near Westcliffe Colorado. The ranch is quite picturesque with the wide fields backed by the mountains contrasting the white buildings.
The Storm
After the first warning drops the clouds poured several times over the next two hours. The broken strands of one of the storms stream from Little Scraggy Peak as I start the final descent to the Colorado Trail.
