The effects of evening lighting can be dramatic if used properly. These grasses would normally be hard to pick out in a photo, but are brought to high contrast detail by the backlighting from the sun.
This prairie dog was enjoying the sunshine while eating, and didn’t care that we were close by observing.
Wind has made this grass carve a clock face into the snow. The truncated face reflects the short days of winter.
