These neon leaves fade quickly after falling, but offer a bright fringe to the water near shore.
Drowning in Green
The water levels climb at over a foot per day as Lake Powell refills in the spring. The inrush pushes debris up the side canyons before covering the bushes growing there.
Fall Contrast
Partly sunny days really make fall colors pop, with the clouds giving a contrast to the bright leaves.

A black throated sparrow sits in a dead bush, glen canyon in the background. I had been chasing these small birds for a half hour, trying to get one to sit close enough and long enough for a good shot.

Orange is the typical color of Globmallow, seen here in the subspecies Desert Globmallow. Spring brings out intense flowering, before the sky sucks back all moisture.
