Fall Contrast
Partly sunny days really make fall colors pop, with the clouds giving a contrast to the bright leaves.
Sparrow
A black throated sparrow sits in a dead bush, glen canyon in the background. I had been chasing these small birds for a half hour, trying to get one to sit close enough and long enough for a good shot.
Stormy Shards
These blades of ice are the result of an ice storm, followed by a warm (near freezing) humid day.

An engine waits on a siding near the Black Thunder coal mine along side cars it is switching.
Opportunity
This Emerald or Cuckoo Wasp was out hunting on the sunflowers that were attracting everything else.
globemallow
Orange is the typical color of Globmallow, seen here in the subspecies Desert Globmallow. Spring brings out intense flowering, before the sky sucks back all moisture.
Jeweled Leaf
The recent rain decorated many of the fallen leaves on this afternoon.
La Sal
The back roads east of Moab UT lead through the La Sal mountains. Alpine gives way to aspens, and the lower stretches are shared by cattle and old uranium mines.
Fall Growth
Mushrooms love the wet fall weather, and grow in a matter of days after the rain.
