Fire Sticks

Nikon D40 - 10/13/2013 - f-4.5 - 1/2500 - ISO 800 - 90mm eqv.

This is a photo that was a scene that struck me with its color and patterns last fall when I was walking. This was cropped and color graded, with no other editing. I have been taking a little more time recently to edit photos I have taken, so hopefully I will be able to post a few more of them here.

Ocean State 2013 Entries

This is my second year of entry in the PSA (Photography Society of America), and more directly PSRI (Photography Society of Rhode Island) sponsored Ocean State International Exhibition of Photography, and thought that this would be a good time to pick up work on the site again.

The following images are all processed to some extent or another, some using high bit depth processing and tone mapping, and others with some manual sharpening.

These last two are minor variations of photos you have seen in my gallery earlier, so I am posting them at the resolution used for the competition.

This is a heavily processed photo done using GIMP. The photo it is based off of is one of my own.

The processing is managed through an 8 layer stack, based off of a partial inverted color process that I developed. It is a difficult process to manage properly, and required a lot of manual mask painting to achieve the balanced colors that are seen in this final version.

Reflecting on Fall (Printing Edit)

Cannon PowerShot A540 - 9/16/2012 - f-3.2 - 1/800 sec - ISO Unknown - Unknown focal length - 9 exposures.

This is a edited version of the panorama posted at the beginning of November 2012 titled 'Reflecting on Fall'. The edit was designed to increase the contrast, especially in the sky. I also boosted the colors in the trees so that the print would turn out better, as a really dark fall colors picture is not that interesting in print.

A Falling Mural

Nikon D40 - 9/30/2012 - f-8 - 1/500 sec - ISO 280 - Individual photos at 82mm eqv. - 6 exposures

This panorama was taken near Ironwood MI. The colors were very close to peak while I was in the area, which afforded a number of brilliantly colored images. This particular image was one of the more stunning, as most of the other ones were using techniques which i hadn't used before.

This image was stitched using Hugin, and the colors were balanced using GIMP. The color balancing was achieved using layers balanced for specific colors and areas of the photo, which afforded exceptional local contrast as well as having vibrant color. I will be releasing a tutorial on the technique in the near future.
