Matching the Mood
This painted lady butterfly is brightly colored, but is hard to spot in many environments.

This pair of red wing blackbirds was very vocal as I canoed around a bog, and I soon found out they had a nest near by.

This picture is kind of scuffed, but I like the desaturation and vignetting, and the sparse arrangement of trees and bushes.

Ice crystals cover the surface of Blue Mesa reservoir. This was a perfectly calm morning and the crystals had grown to several feet in length.
Noisy Neighbor
Bullfrogs form a noisy part of the summer chorus, making it easy to tell if they are near. Despite their large size and large voice they are often hard to spot, since their colors match their surroundings well.
Rosy Finch
The Brown-Capped Rosy-Finch lives at high elevations in the Rocky Mountains only. This one is on McClellan Mountain, picking through alpine flowers.
