Silk Flow
Nikon D40 - 10/2/2011 - f-22 - 1 sec - ISO 200 - 33mm eqv.
An unusual overhead slow shutter photo of the Amnicon River. This is one of my favorite slow shutter photos because of the perspective.

This particular piece of artwork was not totally complete in my view. I wanted to find a more readable font for the main text. It was my second complete artwork for mintCast. The background took me a number of tries to get the proper texture and 3D look to it. I started with a flame fractal rendered by the flame plugin included in GIMP. This was then colorized and mapped to a gradient which were combined to give a subtle shift to the highlights. Next I made a drop shadow for the visible parts of the flame, which was accomplished with the help of depth mapping based on brightness. Finally I added texture via a number of different plugins. All of the text was very simple.

This image is one that I took of the fall colors, but became bored with the standard pumped colors you see in most photos. I decided to edit it with GIMP to have a old/grunge look. Once I had the BW conversion, I decided that it should have some color, so I reprocessed the raw to give strong colors and dropped it on top of the BW. The new layer is in overlay mode with low opacity, with a duplicate to add a little more to the dirty look.
Edited photo of fall leaves.
"Plugged into mintCast" My first artwork for the mintCast podcast.
Nikon D40 - 9/23/2012 - f-6.3 - 1/320 sec - ISO 800 - 82mm eqv.
This image is an apple branch against the evening sky. The crooked shape against the sky was a striking picture.

This was a really spectacular sky following a sunset. The skyline is from Duluth MN, taken from the rose garden parking lot.
A late evening sky over a city, with an unusual square shape to the high level clouds.
Nikon D40 - 3/12/2011 - f-4.2 - 15 sec - ISO 1100 - 45mm eq.
A candle lit path through Amnicon Falls State Park Wisconsin. This particular night there had been a fresh snowfall, creating the perfect white frosting on the trees.

Nikon D40 - 4/6/2012 - f-3.5 - 30 sec - ISO 560 - 27mm eq.
A starry night just as the nearly full moon was rising. The clouds were nearly invisible to the naked eye, but they traced themselves nicely onto a long exposure.
Clouds on a seemingly clear night.

This is an image that turned out better than I thought it would. I was in a hurry when I took the photo. I really like the texture on the pod.
